smoky views

You would not know that this view is of La Brea Avenue looking out at the city---almost dead center---at La Brea Avenue from my deck.....Scary, isn't it? Well even scarier when it should look like this. And then the view of the Ocean looking West, again, from my deck.... on a clear day...this picture below is how one hopes it will always look.... But on the Thursday, this is how it looked, same view..... Pretty frightening that this is the air everyone was breathing for days....Then, the view of Downtown Los Angeles, again, from my deck...On a beautiful fairly clear day.......
But on Thursday....well, you couldn't see Downtown Los Angeles, at all....No buildings, just the smoke that has been in the air from fires that have been burning too long......

More To Come.....

It must be horrid to have that pall of smoke polluting the air and one can't hope for a stiff breeze until all danger is over. I hope that is soon and that your chest is not affected. Take care.

i've been following all about the fires there. a friend of my brothers came within 4 homes of having his burn down.. I can't even imagine the effects on so many people this is having... and to think some were set on purpose!!! that's the scariest part of all!

Thinking of you Naomi. I have some *seriously* crossed fingers that this will pass *many* miles from you.

If you see Arnie passing by say 'Hi' from me... [grin].

What sobering views of the city, especially the last two photos of Downtown Los Angeles. It's scary to think that's the air you're all breathing.

I hope you get clear skies soon and please take care, Naomi. :)

These are interesting photos from where you are.

I've seen some slides of the fire...the forces of mother nature is merciless. I hope you are well. Take care. C U.

It's just awful awful awful. But again, I am much relieved to know the fires have stayed away from where you are and left you safe and sound.

It isn't any wonder that you cannot go out in that! How terrible that must be for everyone - even those who do not have problems. Take care of yourself. Naomi!

I can’t get off your blog…LOL
Wooooooooohoooooooo on the You Tube posting!
I was just getting ready to send you a mail on how to post them this weekend.
Your post and Vids with Lena was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed them.
She is one of my favorites. I love her style.
I was captivated and enraptured with your Eva Gabor post. Naomi Gertrude has a certain ring to it…lol You have the most fascinating memories to share with us.
I appreciate your sharing with us more than you can know. Thank you dear.
Your post today is upsetting. I hope the fires can be stopped and your air can clear up to be what your previous clear pictures show.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Huggles and Love,
Raggedy

HEY!! What's wrong with Gertrude? My grandmother's name was Stella Gertrude. LOL. (thank goodness I got a 'nice' name, LOL)

The smoke is just horrid. I'm in Riverside, and at times, it looks like fog rolling through here. Today will be a nice day, after our few sprinkles from yesterday.

I'm glad you are ok...keep your windows/doors shut.

Wildfires are a feature of the SoCal climate, just as hurricanes are in Fla.

I hope that you, Naomi, and all the blogsters in our area will heed this good advice: (lol) "don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared---BE PREPARED"!

That means getting organized for possible evacuation, knowing where you will go, and having the things you need to make it an adventure, not a trauma. It is also important to equip home, office and car with air purifiers, and isolate one small area as a "clean room" when the outdoor air is really bad.

Being scared creates stress, something no one needs, especially when the weather is creating inconvenience and extra work. So, mouth your favorite four letter word, and carry on.

Frightening scenes of the smoke filled air in LA that tell a story of devastating losses from the out of control fires that affected the lives of thousands. it's too heartbreaking and unimaginable to comprehend to those of us who fearfully watched the news unfold.

Most definitely too long Naomi. I can't watch it on TV, it's too disturbing for me. Those people and their homes and all the poor animals. So sad. I wish CA would get a good drenching rain, enough to put them all out.

Breathing that air such can't be good. You take care of yourself!

I've been wondering how the fires are affecting your area & mainly, you. Friday was the worst here, it was as though there were no sky, just gray skum. I couldn't even look outside cuz I'd start getting claustrophobic & I don't have claustrophobia!
I'm glad you are coping OK.

Oh my! I thought you so far from the fires! Ugh! Don't breathe that! Stay inside.
I saw on one show that hanging moist towels in your house and blowing a fan toward the towel pulls the soot toward the towel. It can be annoying having to wet and hang them off and on through the day, but they said it keeps soot from settling in your home since I guess it can get past the filters.

Wow, I really thought you wouldn't be suffering from these awful fires. So sorry your having to go through this!

Thinking of you!

This has been the worst fire-storm I can remember. My sister's house came with in a quarter mile or so of the fire (she was under voluntary evacuation.) A friend at work who lives in Running Springs was one of the lucky ones who did not lose her house. The fire came within 100 yards of her back door!

Those photos really tell the story. I hope the air clears up soon as that cannot be healthy for anyone. What is most scary is that some were started by arsonists who relish the right conditions for their evil work. It's hard to even grasp what humans can do things to each other-- if you can call such monsters humans.

That air looks positively thick enough to slice. I do hope that you have access to something more pure. I can only imagine how much this must be playing your health up.

It is absolutely incredible how much difference there is between your pictures. I have my fingers crossed for a return to the beautiful clear blue skies soon.

Wow. One thing that scares the life out of me is fires. I grew up in the country where there were bushfires every summer. Scary, scary stuff. I feel so much for te poor people who have lost their homes in the fires over your way at the moment... Lets hope things 'clear up' before too long...

my goodness! what a scary sight. we are just so glad you are safe.

my mother, you have an idea how she is, ssaid that she wonders adn worries most over the massive ammount of animal wildlife injuries and deaths we arent even hearing about. the loss of human life, of course, being tragic on its own.

those pictures does make it look like bottled fresh air might just be the next money making crazy in so-cal.
