the latest news

There is 'The Sweetster' himself, in April....! I wish I could tell you that there was something truly definitive, but...there isn't. The test just showed some inflammation and irritation....I've had to think hard about what the best thing to do for him at this point....So, they are starting a steroid today---putting it in his food, just as I would have to do. He had begun to eat a little bit in these past few days, but not enough....and the consensus is that he has some kind if inflammatory bowl disease. The Steroids can and hopefully will control that. The only way to pin all this down further would be exploratory surgery. I don't want to put him through that at this point in his life----it holds too many risks, I'm afraid. So......we'll see how he does. He is still being Hydrated and until he is more stable and eating and pooping more normally, he needs to stay there in the Hospital......I'm not going to say anymore right now.....Please keep praying for my dear dear sweetheart....and maybe a little prayer for me, too.....Below, a picture of hope........

More To Come.......

FURTHER UPDATE: 4:15pm Sweetie ate a little more today, and had a well formed poop....the first 'well formed' since he got there almost two weeks ag0-----Baby Steps but, this was on his own.....The Steroids won't kick in for a couple of days....So, this is some good news......!

I hope they do the same for Sweetie

Dear Naomi,
this is a hard time, for both you and Sweetie.
I must admit, a close friend like your own Cat(s)is something very special, for us who knows what such a close relationship really means.

I'm thinking about the two of you. You both deserves the very best and I really hope Sweetie will be back were he loves to be: With you.

glad to hear Sweetie is responding. Keep a stif upper lip, and be very analytical about suggested therapies. Remember vets are IN BUSINESS--and don't forget to get second and even third opinions if necessary.

You two are in my thoughts 24/7.

I was happy to see the update, but from someone who has been there, I hope you have given some thought to maybe putting an end to his suffering. It's tough but sometimes that's the best way to show your love.

Phew, I have been waiting for this update. So glad Sweetie is improving at least. Our pets being sick is just heartbreaking.
Minnie was having terrible gas problems-bad enough to set off the carbom monoxide detector. My vet said to switch foods.
I found Dick Van Patten's brand and it has really helped her digestion. I use his Green Pea and Chicken formula. It is a limited ingredient diet. Ask you vet if it might help IB.
Hope that darlin cat is soon home and feeling much better. You are both still in my prayers.

I am glad to hear about his improvements and hopefully he can soon be home with you. Give this time to see how he does. I have heard of several cats recently getting an illness that kills and have wondered if anybody is looking into whether some food might be contaminated. It makes me uneasy given my own two cats and the need to feed them something I buy and trust others to make safe.

Hi Naomi,
Long-time lurker here.
I came across your blog while looking for swimming pools and you had written about the pool at the Hilton I believe.

I happened to read your post for yesterday. It is so hard when a pet is ill. They are family. It makes one feel so helpless. I am thinking good thoughts for you and Sweetie.

Take care,
Laura

Well, if the steroids haven't kicked in yet and he's eating better and pooping normally, that IS a good sign and I'm happy to hear this!! I will continue to pray for you and your Sweetie, my friend. It breaks my heart to hear he's not with you, but I'm glad to know he's receiving the best care and attention at the hospital.

Please continue to keep us posted. Any good news is great news!

I'm glad he's shown some positive progress. I pray it continues and that the steroids will help him feel better enough to come home to your loving arms.

Seriously.... I was pleased to see your update on Sweetie's condition, even though nothing definite has been determined. Good to know that there has been some improvement in his inner plumbing. Keeping fingers crossed.... he'll soon be home with his mama!

They are so well mannered and its hard to let them go when its time but it sounds like its not his time and i am happy to hear that. I hope he comes home soon and you can keep him until he's a ripe old age and ready to be gone from this world..

My Miss Chloe had inflammatory bowel disease many years ago and they gave her one steroid shot and said it might last for 8 weeks..... it is now at least 12 years later and she is getting cranky from her age (17), but still eating ok and not losing weight. Hoping Sweetie gets feeling much better.
