moving hawks

A number of years ago when I was somewhat more mobile and able, I followed the birth and growth a some baby Hawks.....I wrote quite a bit about them back then, but I took so very many pictures during those months, I thought it might be fun to show some of them to you now---some I don't believe I ever posted...... I so enjoyed getting pictures of these truly beautiful birds, in flight...Especially with the sun highlighting their feathers, as in the pictures above..... They are magnificent Birds, these Hawks. I see them all the time as I sit looking out at the city...They usually float and sore and swoop slowly, looking for prey, I know.....It is the way of nature. But these pictures are all of the Baby's after they learned to fly---trying their wings and doing really well.... Taking off......WOW! It's awesome to catch these Hawks right as this is happening.....Look at those little yellow feet....These Birds are strong! Such a young face, above....One of the three babies---not quite mature yet.....(Do click on these to make them bigger......). You can tell by their eyes, among other things, that they are still so very young in these pictures....... Here are the three 'babies' together....They were together a lot when they were teenagers....It was such fun to photograph them and to follow their growth....Fun and also so very satisfying....! I am always saying this, but there is nothing like watching nature in all it's wonder......There are more special pictures of these three siblings....Next time, my dears....next time......

More To Come.......

Oh my, how AWESOME these images are, you look to be close enough to reach up and almost touch these amazing creatures - wow! You live in a beautiful part of the world, to have such visitors on your doorstep.

These are great pictures! I find as I get older I notice the birds more. Up here in the desert we have lots of ravens and crows - I love their tenacity! And I'm lucky enough to have an owl visit the tree right outside my bedroom about once a month.

Absolutely wonderful in flight photos Naomi. That is not easy to do. I usually get a picture of where the bird was.

Very cool.

At the moment, we've got a couple perched and nesting in an oak tree across the highway. They patrol my parcel and keep the field mice at bay, though I've never had a camera ready to document their hunts.

Cheers.

Fantastic shots. How far away from the birds were you? We're you using a zoom lens?

I can see why you say nature is your religion (or something like that). There is peace in nature and a special wonder that cannot be explained. Love the way you captured these hawks and gave us a glimpse into their amazing world. Beautiful closeups, as usual.

Thanks for sharing and I wish you a wonderful Sunday, amiguita! ♥

I remember all your wonderful posts from this time well. I loved following their development through your blog. The hawks are such magnificent birds. I do hope you are still able to see them (maybe not the exact same ones) flying around. Nature is such great therapy. That is why I surround myself with animals :)

Magnificent photos Naomi. I wonder if the same ones come back and visit you. I bet they do.
Do you ever have them flying at the windows like my owl?
Because we are on one side of a bowl we have the floating and soaring but they are just seagulls and the odd buzzard . Not nearly so exciting as your cretures.

I see your photos- and already covet a longer telephoto to practice getting up to your level of skill with the lens.

I shall miss when "our" hawks get bored with the neighborhood.
Magnificient creatures. I wish them all happy gopher hunting):-

I recall seeing hawks soaring and in flight from my youth in the midwest countryside. Never had a close view of nesting birds or the young when they first flew. Your photos are remarkable.

I do occasionally see hawks out here as they occasionally venture out of the mountains into our foothill residential area. I sometimes hear owls, too.

Those are some great action shots! You must have a good zoom lens. Anything nesting nearby now? Putting my birdfeeders back up is on my list but I keep forgetting to do it!

So beautiful Naomi! What a pleasure and joy to have participated in this and from your wonderful, fabulous, tree house in the hills.
"your" euphorbia trees are just beginning to leaf out here. It's a kick for me to go to neighbors houses and see the "babies" also growing so big and strong.. Enjoy your day and feel blessed in your beautiful tree house... Hopefully we'll have a nest to observe this Springtime of 2012..

I love photograph 2 and 3. How amazing to capture these birds. Reminds me of the film I enjoyed recently "The Big Year". If you haven't seen it, you should. So were you up a tree yourself with a camera? :D

PS - Naomi, have you heard of the movie, "Local Color?" I saw the trailer for it on YouTube and thought you might be interested (if you haven't seen it already):

how incredibly wonderful to have such a vista from your home - all of nature in its purest sense - and these magnificent birds to follow! how wonderful for you - and for all of us who benefit so from your generosity and thoughtfulness - hope all is well with you, dear lady - my own world still runs rampant with reality distractions but i'm working constantly to narrow them all down and be done with them and back to more fun and games so to speak - in the meantime - so lovely to drop by your place - hugs -
